Prepare for a warmer climate as we travel south to beautiful Savannah Georgia. We begin with a travel day to Charlotte, NC for the night. Departing Charlotte, we arrive at the Billy Graham Library where we learn the life and legacy of Americas Pastor and tour this beautiful 40,000 sq ft facility. Boarding, we continue to Savannah for a rousing dinner at Pirates House Restaurant, where past pirates and sailors would rendezvous for food and drink; we will ride a trolley through Savannahs dark side with stories of ghosts, hangings, and murders; visit some truly historic buildings and museums, enjoy a relaxing dinner cruise on the Savannah River, spend a full day shopping and exploring Tybee Island, and a Broadway-style musical in one of the oldest operating theaters in the US.
Day 1: Today is a full day of travel to Drury Inn & Suites, Charlotte, NC, where we will stay tonight. Dinner is included at the hotel or (on your own) at nearby restaurants.
Day 2: After breakfast (included) we will visit the Billy Graham Library, celebrating over 75 years of Gospel Ministry. Tour the 40,000 sq foot experience where you discover the life and legacy of Americas Pastor. Lunch is included before we continue our journey to Savannah, GA where we check in at the Hilton Garden Inn. After check in we have time to freshen up before dinner at Pirates House Restaurant, a unique dining experience in a facility that was a favorite rendezvous for bloodthirsty pirates and rugged sailors to eat and drink. After dinner we board our trolley for a Ghosts and Gravestones Tour. This 75-minute tour offers fun stories of ghosts, hangings, murders, and even stops for a visit to the Andrew Low House, located on the site of the Old City Jail, and Perkins & Sons Ships Chandlery with their tales of spirits haunting River Street.
DAY 3: Breakfast (included) before we board for a full day of adventure beginning with a guided city tour of historic Savannah, presented by a knowledgeable and registered local guide. Highlights include the 2.2 square miles of the Historic Districts restored 18th & 19th century buildings, splendid homes, gorgeous parks, the picturesque waterfront, and The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, an iconic symbol of Savannah. Lunch will be on your own before we depart for Pin Point Heritage Museum, located on the site of the A.S. Varn & Sons oyster and crab factory in PinPoint. The company operated until 1985 when it closed and marked the end of an era for this tiny fishing community, tucked away on the banks of the Moon River. Founded by first-generation freedmen, this self-sustained city survived for over one hundred years; where family, religion and work were deeply connected to the water. Our evening begins with a Savannah River Dinner Cruise, where we can relax and enjoy this beautiful Riverboat and also a delicious buffet-style dinner with dance music by the riverboat entertainers.
DAY 4: Breakfast (included) before we cruise to Tybee Island for the day. Enjoy an overview bus tour of the island with stops at Tybee Island Museum & Marine Science Center, before we free time to shop and dine on Tybrisa Street. This afternoon we will tour the Tybee Lighthouse and Tybreeza, the home of Ms. Linda, a historic Tybee circa 1918 cottage. Here we will be treated to a traditional Low Country Boil Dinner and an evening with locals who share stories and show us how Southerners entertain at the beach, TYBEE STYLE.
DAY 5: Breakfast (included) before a guided tour of Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannahs most famous and hauntingly beautiful cemetery who has captured the imaginations of writers, poets, naturalists, photographers, and filmmakers for over 150 years We travel back to the Savannah Historic District for lunch (on your own) and enjoy some free time to shop and explore. Dinner tonight is at the River House Seafood Restaurant, a restored cotton warehouse overlooking the Savannah River. Enjoy the Chefs Choice dinner especially prepared for this evening. After dinner we will visit the historic Savannah Theatre. Operating since 1818 this restored theater is the oldest of its kind still operating on the original site, in the US. Our evening will be filled with comedy and toe tapping music from a Broadway-style musical show.
Day 6: Enjoy breakfast and a little free time before boarding and travel back to Charlotte, NC. We will stay tonight at the Drury Inn & Suites and dinner is included at the hotel.
Day 7: Breakfast is included before we board and depart for Ohio, lunch and dinner are on your own enroute home.
